The Sacramento public transport agency victim of a ransomware attack
Posted date 28/11/2017
The agency dedicated to managing public transportation in the Californian city of Sacramento, in the United States, has been the victim of a Ransomware attack. It all started when the agency's website was no longer operational due to the attack of a hacker who subsequently infected the agency's computer system through a ransomware attack. Although eighty percent of the affected data has been recovered thanks to different backup copies, the incident is still being investigated and the security of the computer system is improved to prevent future attacks. In addition, the agency ensures that no data was filtered.
The hacker responsible for the attack asked the agency to pay a ransom of 8,000 dollars in bitcoins.
