Data breach at DICK'S Sporting Goods

DICK'S Sporting Goods, one of the largest sports equipment chains in the United States, reported on August 21st to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission an unauthorized access to its information systems containing confidential information.

The attack caused the mail system and telephone system to crash, as well as a lockout for all employees, with IT staff individually validating users by camera so that they could log in again. Although in the security report, the company assures that its operations were not affected.

After detecting the incident, the company activated its incident response plan and mobilized external cybersecurity teams to investigate, isolate and contain the threat. In addition to contacting law enforcement to continue the investigation which, as of this writing, is ongoing.
