Pro-Russian attackers carry out DDoS against state entities in Japan
Kazuhiko Aoki, deputy chief cabinet secretary of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, announced at a press conference on Thursday October 17th that his party's website had suffered a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack. The attack came at the start of the 12-day House of Representatives election period, which is of key importance to Japan's parliamentary system.
The attack was carried out by pro-Russian threat actors, including NoName057(16) and Cyber Army of Russia (Reborn) or CARR, who have already claimed responsibility and who also attacked other Japanese institutions and organisations, including shipbuilding companies, legal consultancy agencies, and financial and state services. Local media confirmed some of these attacks, which are retaliatory for large-scale military practices carried out between Japan and the United States.
