AEPD fines Vodafone

Vodafone España, S.A.U., has been fined 8.15 million euros by the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) for allegedly having violated the General Data Protection Regulation (RGPD), the General Telecommunications Law (LGT), the Law on Information Society Services and E-Commerce (LSSICE) and the Law on the Protection of Personal Data and Guarantees of Digital Rights (LOPDGD).

The facts that have led to the infringement of the aforementioned laws lie in marketing and commercial prospecting actions through telephone calls, SMS messages and e-mails, which have been carried out without request or authorisation, without adapting the procedures and guarantees established for their execution and without allowing users to exercise their right to oppose them.

This resolution is the result of an exhaustive investigation following multiple complaints filed against the company. For its part, Vodafone has stated that it will lodge an appeal.
