Compromised e-mail accounts of NRCC officials
The US National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) has stated that, in April 2018, suffered a cyberattack that involved access to the e-mail accounts of four high-ranking officials.
According to Ian Prior, vice president of Mercury Public Affairs, a strategic communications firm contracted by the NRCC, the NRCC's Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) detected the incident and immediately contacted the FBI and its security consultant CrowdStrike, which had already been contracted by the NRCC, to initiate an internal investigation.
By the moment, it is unknown whether a foreign government was behind the attack on the NRCC, although party officials claim that none of the information accessed during the cyber attack has appeared in public.
