Cyberattack on the Andalusian Health Service

Updated on 05/08/2024

On Tuesday, July 9, a security incident was detected in the San Cecilio and Virgen de las Nieves University Hospitals, as well as in the Southern Health Management Area of Granada and the Granada-Metropolitan Health District, which affected the web pages of these hospitals, but not the infrastructure, services or personal data of employees or users.

The incident was detected with the sending of an email in which an attempt was made to extort money from these hospitals. The response was swift, isolating the affected servers and temporarily halting provincial online services. An investigation was started in which the data from 50,000 employees and former employees of the Andalucia Health Service (SAS) was discovered to be leaked.

The SAS contacted and is collaborating with the appropriate organizations, as well as the police, who are continuing the investigation.
