Data breach in the Texas Tech University System

Updated on 16/12/2024

The University of Texas Health Science Center (HSC) at the University of Texas at El Paso suffered a cyberattack last September that resulted in the temporary loss of some computing services and applications. The university's cybersecurity teams were immediately involved, confirming that this was an incident in which files and folders were accessed or deleted from the HSC network between 17 and 24 September.

Following the investigation, it has been reported that the data of 1.465 million people were exposed during the incident. The data includes full name, date of birth, social security number, financial and health information among others. The attack has so far been claimed by ransomware threat actor Interlock ransomware, although such claims have not been confirmed by the university.
