EU sanctions cyberattacks for the first time

The Council of the European Union (EU) has decided to impose restrictive measures against 6 people and 3 entities responsible for various cyberattacks, among which are the attempted cyberattack against the OPCW (Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons) and the widely acquaintances WannaCry, NotPetya and Operation Cloud Hopper.

These sanctions are part of the options offered by the EU's set of cyberdiplomacy instruments to prevent, deter and respond to malicious computer activities directed against the EU or its Member States, this being the first time that this instrument has been used..

Among the sanctions filed are the travel ban and the immobilization of property, as well as the impossibility of enjoying economic funds belonging to the EU.
