Facebook accidentally saves passwords in plain text
Facebook has reported that, by mistake, it has been storing its users' passwords in plain text, although it has not provided details of this failure, it has confirmed that both Facebook and Instagram users have been affected.
In his statement he also indicated that passwords have never been exposed to the Internet, that only Facebook employees have had access to them and that they have not detected illegal uses. In addition, they will contact the affected users to inform them of the problem.
[Update 26/04/2019] Facebook has expanded the information on its official blog, explaining that they have discovered additional records of Instagram passwords stored in legible format. They now estimate that this initial problem affected millions of Instagram users. They will notify these users as they did the others, as well as confirm that these stored passwords were not exploited internally or accessed incorrectly.
