Guardia Civil arrests the leader of a gang of cybercriminals

As part of an international operation, the Guardia Civil has arrested the leader of a global cybercrime group, Ransom Cartel, in Tarragona (Spain).

Ransom Cartel is the group responsible for other ransomware such as CryptXXX or Cryptowall, and is believed to be responsible for more, such as Angler Exploitation Kit or Reveton. In addition, millions of scams derived from the illegitimate use of these malware tools are attributed to the group, which have infected millions of computers and have brought the criminal organization revenues of more than 30 million euros per year.

The operation involved organizations from different countries, such as the US Secret Service and the FBI, the Portuguese Judicial Police, the Ukrainian Security Service, the Polish Central Cybercrime Office and the UK National Crime Agency, which cooperated with the Singapore Police to dismantle the infrastructure used by this criminal group.
