Holland & Knight, identity theft fraud victim
Holland & Knight, an American law firm, faces a million-dollar lawsuit after being accused of not having taken the necessary measures to prevent and identify a fraud that amounts to more than 3 million euros in a transaction.
Cyber attackers intercepted the company's emails and supplanted the identity of their clients, obtaining access to documentation and information on operations, being able to replace the account in which the payment money should be deposited with an account from a Hong Kong bank.
The Sorenson family, which is the plaintiff, has filed a lawsuit for negligent behavior and breach of contract, based on the fact that, despite the existence of established procedures to obtain confirmation from the parties to change the current account, the communications sent from Holland & Knight were intercepted by cyber criminals.
