Information leak in MyHeritage affects 92 million users

MyHeritage, genealogical plataform online, has piblished a information leak that affects its users. The affected data is the email account and the password hashes associate at this accounts. The information leak affects a total 92.283.889 users that they were registered before October 26, 2017, date produced the information leak.

The leak was detected when an anonymous researcher contacted the company informing that he had found credentials to access the platform on an external server. Once MyHeritage contrasted the information and contrasted that it was true, it opened an investigation to determine the scope of the information leakage and notified the competent authorities, following the general regulation of data protection of the EU "GDPR".
