New Orleans declares state of emergency for ransomware type incident

The City of New Orleans, located in the State of Louisiana, has seen its public services paralysed after falling victim to a ransomware-type malware infection.

The detection took place in the early hours of Friday, December 13. Once the threat was confirmed, the servers and equipment were disconnected to mitigate the effects of the malware, and a state of emergency was declared in the town.

According to its mayor, LaToya Cantrell, an investigation is currently underway. Meanwhile, the computerized work is being done manually.
