New Silex malware blocks IoT devices

A new malware named Silex has successfully attacked more than 2,000 IoT devices in just over 4 hours.

Akamai researcher Larry Cashdollar was the first to discover this malware. Once the device has been infected, Silex removes the firmware, storage data, firewall rules, network settings and finally halts the device.

Investigations indicates that the creator of this malware is a 14 years old teenager nicknamed Light Leafon, he is known to have been the creator of the IoT HITO botnet. Light Leafon has reported that Silex began as a joke, but now it has become a full time project and will add new functions to it.
