Police operation against SIM-Swapping

Europol has reported the arrest of ten cybercriminals involved in a string of SIM-Swapping attacks against various celebrities in the United States throughout 2020.

Those targeted include: influencers, sports stars, musicians and their families. According to the investigation, the cybercriminals got to steal personal information, hijack social media accounts and make off with up to $100 million in cryptocurrencies, all after illegally accessing their phones.

The investigation, coordinated by Europol, involved law enforcement authorities in the United Kingdom, the United States, Belgium, Malta and Canada.
