Spain faces two financial penalties for failing to comply with a European directive

In view of the failure to adopt or communicate measures for transposing the Directive (EU) 2016/680 of the European Parliament and of the Council, 27^th April 2016, regarding the protection of personal data for the purposes of prevention, investigation, detection or prosecution of criminal offences or execution of criminal penalties, and regarding the free movement of such data, Spain has been sentenced to pay a sum of €15,000,000 and a daily penalty payment of €89,548.20 by the Court of Justice of the European Union.

The judgment, requested the Court by the Commission, was imposed under Article 260 TFEU, section 3, following the expiry of the deadline set in the Commission's ruling 25^th March 2019 to comply with the Directive.
