Spanish National Police and FBI arrest cyber-scammer in Palma de Mallorca

The Spanish National Police arrested a 22-year-old British man at Palma airport on May 31, who was the leader of a criminal group dedicated to the theft of information from companies and cryptocurrencies, which accumulated up to 391 bitcoins.

This group used social engineering and phishing techniques to steal information and credentials to gain access to the systems of the targeted companies. With these techniques they got hold of 391 bitcoins with a value of 27 million dollars.

This is the result of a joint operation between the FBI and the National Police, since the detainee was suspected of computer attacks on 45 US companies and was about to leave the country towards Naples. At the time of the arrest he had his laptop and telephone which were tapped.

The judicial authority placed him in provisional imprisonment.
