Theft of 6 million dollars from a Russian bank through the SWIFT system

The Russian Central Bank has reported that during 2016, as a result of a single attack, 6 million dollars were stolen through the international financial communications network SWIFT.

The attackers managed to take control of a team of the Russian bank to later make a transfer through the payment message system. In his statement, the spokesman did not indicate the affected bank nor gave more details about the incident.

The SWIFT company spokesman informed that its systems were not affected and that its priority is to help in everything possible to restore security. SWIFT did not give further details about the incident.
