The head of incident response in the Spanish National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE), Javier Berciano, was appointed yesterday as a member of the Board of Directors of the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST), the most important forum of international CERTs.

This is great news because for several years Spain had not been represented in the Board of Directors. This shows the clear positioning of Spain, in general, and INCIBE, in particular, as a reference in cybersecurity.

The appointment of Javier Berciano took place during the Annual FIRST Conference held in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). The Board of Directors is a group of individuals responsible for general operating policy, procedures, and related matters affecting the First.Org, Inc., corporation as a whole. It consists of a total of 10 people, of which half are renewed each year. Each elected member serves two years in office, so Javier Berciano will be part of this select group of experts until the 2020 conference.

Founded in 1990, the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST) consists of internet emergency response teams from more than 429 corporations, government bodies, universities and other institutions across 89 countries in the Americas, Asia, Europe, Africa, and Oceania. It promotes cooperation among computer security incident response teams.

Javier Berciano will combine his work as head of incident response in the Spanish National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE) with his new duties at the Board of Directors, reinforcing the role of INCIBE in the international area.
